Home/Services/Roach Control

Palmetto bug, German roach — stomped either way.

The big one on the porch and the small ones behind the fridge are different insects with different plans. Identification first, then the treatment that actually matches — explained plainly, priced in writing.

The signs you already noticed.

  • A large reddish-brown roach on the porch, in the garage, or flying at dusk — that’s the palmetto bug
  • Small tan roaches with two dark stripes, clustered in the kitchen or bathroom
  • Pepper-like droppings in drawers, cabinets, or along the backsplash
  • A musty, oily odor that lingers in one cabinet or closet
  • Egg cases — small brown capsules — in corners, hinges, or appliance motors
  • Activity at night that vanishes the moment the light comes on

How the visit runs.

Identify the species. Palmetto bugs invade from outside; German roaches live inside. The treatment, the timeline, and the honest prognosis are completely different — so we start by knowing which one you have.

Bait where they feed. Gel baits and growth regulators placed in harborage zones — the strategy that collapses German roach populations instead of scattering them.

Seal the invitation. For the big outdoor species, the fix ends at the perimeter: entry points, door sweeps, weep holes, mulch discipline. You get the list, in writing.

Two roaches, two wars

The palmetto bug — the American cockroach, sometimes the smokybrown — lives outdoors in palmettos, mulch, and sewer lines, and wanders in through gaps, drains, and the occasional dramatic flight. Finding one doesn’t mean your house is dirty; it means the perimeter has a door open. The German cockroach is a different universe: small, fast-breeding, and living full-time inside your kitchen. One is a keep-out problem. The other is an eviction. The full breakdown is on the blog.

German roaches: the honest playbook

German roaches breed too fast for sprays to win — a single female’s egg case carries dozens, and the population hides inside appliances, hinges, and wall voids. The winning strategy is bait: slow-acting, carried back to the harborage, shared through the colony. It takes days to weeks, it requires keeping counters clean and competing food sealed, and it works — where foggers and contact sprays reliably make things worse by scattering the population deeper.

Palmetto bugs: the keep-out plan

For the big species, treatment focuses outside-in: a treated perimeter, entry points sealed or flagged, harborage like thick mulch and leaf litter addressed, and drain-and-sewer entry routes identified. After that, the occasional wanderer is the exception, not the weekly heart attack. Homes near the marsh, mature landscaping, or older sewer laterals get the tailored version of this plan — the pressure there is simply higher.

Straight talk: Do not spray the roach highway with hardware-store aerosol the night before your appointment — it scatters the colony off the bait placements and costs the treatment days. Vacuum, wipe, wait, and let the bait do the work.

Questions about roach control.

Does seeing one roach mean an infestation?+
For palmetto bugs, usually not — one wanderer is normal in the lowcountry. For German roaches, one in daylight usually means many more in hiding. The species decides the answer, which is why identification comes first.
Why do I see more roaches after treatment?+
The flush — treatment drives them out of harborage and across the residuals. A few days of increased sightings is the plan working. The drop follows.
Can I get rid of German roaches myself?+
Store baits help at the margins, but established infestations usually need professional-grade bait placement, growth regulators, and the discipline of a follow-up. DIY sprays actively set the effort back.
How fast can you come?+
